Here at JFK over the last month we have continued our discussions and work on healthy relationships as well as the continued observance of Indigenous History Month.
One of our early focuses for thinking through healthy relationships was how to have a healthy relationship with yourself. For many of us this can be the most difficult, and most crucial, relationship we cultivate. With that in mind students watched videos, led discussions, and wrote their own "I am From" Poems. I am so proud of their ability to engage in this topic with vulnerability and strength. Please see some of their examples below.
Students expanded on this topic by engaging in a lesson on what their spehere of influence was. We disussed what you can influence and how, as well as how to engage with what you cannot control in a healthy way. Students picked apart what it meant to understand what you can influence, but also how that influence can be used to engage in healthy or unhealthy relationships. Here are some examples of how students saw their spheres.
I want to give a special shout out to 11th grade student, Suri. Suri always engages in the conversation and is so thoughtful in the work that she turns in. I also want to highlight 9th grade student Vivi, it has been so great to watch her involvement and engagement grow throughout this semester.
As we head rapidly towards the end of the semester I am so ready to see what else we will get to learn together.
